Interested in contributing to Old West Now? There are a number of ways that you can get involved. Sign up to be a guest on our podcast, write a review for the blog, or share your research in a feature article!
OLD WEST NOW includes a podcast, which offers the opportunity to be featured as a guest academic. Guest-centred podcasts focus on individual research projects through an informal interview-style chat about your research. The aim of this is to communicate recent and upcoming research in the area in a way that is suitable for a non-academic audience. Guest podcasts may also focus on a discussion of a particular film, book, comic, TV show, video game etc., which draws inspiration from the Old West. Queries welcomed from academics at all stages.
Reviews should be around 800-1,000 words in length and should discuss how a particular book, comic, video game etc. draws on the history or mythology of the Old West. This could focus on one particular aspect of the Old West, such as the gold rush or the role of women. A slightly longer review essay could compare two or more works united by a theme.
Feature articles should be around 1,500 words and should focus on explaining a relevant aspect of your research in a way that is accessible for non-academic readers. Feature articles are perfect for any research offshoots or as a “digested read” of a published journal article.
Upon acceptance, all contributors should supply a short bio including a summary of their broader research interests, and any links to personal websites/research profiles/social media they would like included.
